Green Concerns
Community Refill Project In July 2021, this project was started with the aim of reducing the number of single-use bottles by offering refills of various eco-friendly cleaning products at cost price, as well as raising funds for the food bank. It was hoped that this would reduce plastic waste, by re-using 'single-use' bottles, promote eco-friendly cleaning products at affordable prices, as well as providing a not-for-profit programme that would benefit the community. Since the start of the project, an estimated 6,400 bottles have been reused : The refill stall can be found in the Market Place on the first Saturday of each month, from 8-12.

Aylsham Climate Emergency In August 2021, Aylsham Town Council declared a climate emergency looking towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. The council formed a group - ACE (Aylsham Climate Emergency) and this community-led membership set up five sub-groups; each working towards a strategy to achieve this: Energy, Food, Nature, Transport & Waste It's not just about reducing carbon emissions on a local scale, but also raising awareness of global climate change. Several from Aylsham Meeting have got involved with this and also in events organised through ACE. We have just participated in the second Green Day (24th September) where events were organised in the Town Hall and the Market Place to provide opportunities for learning as well as fun. More specifically - services have been offered - eg. A visit from an ACE member with a thermal imaging camera to help you see where you might be losing energy in your house. Please visit ACE's website for further information. |
Mend with Friends Each first Saturday of the month, to coincide with the refill stall, we host a visible mending workshop in the Meeting House. This community enterprise, run by "We wear the trousers", focuses on prolonging the life of, or re-purposing clothes and accessories through the techniques of visible mending. Bring an item to repair. Drop in to consult our expert or look at resources for inspiration. All welcome!
